The Committee to Re-Elect Rep. Carl Sciortino announces that Clean Water Action, the Sierra Club, the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists, and the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters have endorsed Sciortino in his bid for re-election.

"Environmental protection is a key to a strong, vibrant community and I am grateful to be supported by these organizations," said Sciortino. "I have done a lot of work on the MBTA Green Line Extension that addresses environmental issues such as air pollution and reducing the number of cars on the road while also creating much-needed jobs. I will continue to fight for the residents of Medford and Somerville to ensure that the state upholds its legal obligations and that the project is completed in a manner that best serves the people of the area."

"The Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters is proud to endorse Rep. Carl Sciortino in his bid for re-election," said Lora Wondolowski, executive director of MLEV. "Carl has been a strong and rational voice on the transportation needs of his district, acting as a fierce advocate for the expansion of the Green Line into Medford and Somerville. Carl realizes that by increasing access to affordable public transportation, we can work toward the goals of cleaner air and safer streets. We look forward to continuing this important work with Rep. Sciortino in the future."

"Few legislators have played as important a role in protecting and promoting public transit as Carl," said Phil Sego, MA Sierra Club political chairman. "His attention to detail and unwavering support have made him a crucial voice on transportation issues."

Sciortino is a three-term Democratic state representative in the 34th Middlesex District, serving Somerville and Medford. In his fight for the Green Line extension, he has worked on issues regarding the project's delayed deadline, community path build-out in Somerville, the level of public involvement, mitigation issues for abutters, and the extension to Route 16.

He has been also been endorsed by the American Federation of Teachers-Massachusetts, the Boston Teachers Union, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, MassEquality, Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, Mass Alliance, the Victory Fund, the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, the Progressive Democrats of Somerville, and the Bay State Stonewall Democrats. He is running for re-election Nov. 2. To learn more or get involved, visit www.electcarl.org.
