34th Middlesex Representative: Carl Sciortino

Sciortino, one of the few openly-gay members of the Mass. legislature, will not appear on the state party primary ballot in September because of a snafu with his election papers this spring. While the two-term legislator is running a vigorous write-in/sticker campaign, he is being challenged by Somerville Ward Five Alderman Robert Trane, who complains Sciortino is beholden to "special interests." MassEquality has called Sciortino, "a true leader for us in the State House. We absolutely have to have him back."
