Sciortino wins pro-choice, GLBT endorsements

The Committee to Re-Elect Carl Sciortino has announced that Sciortino, who represents Somerville and Medford, has won the endorsement of a variety of pro-choice, women's rights, GLBT and Democratic organizations.
The organizations who have announced their support for Sciortino's re-election include: Mass Alliance, MassEquality, Massachusetts National Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, Neighbor to Neighbor, the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund, the Progressive Democrats of Somerville, Democracy for America, and the Young Democrats of Massachusetts.
"I'm honored to win the support of Massachusetts' key advocacy groups for women's rights, GLBT equality and Democratic values," said Sciortino. "During my four years in the Legislature, I've been proud to work for equality for all people and to help protect a woman's right to choose. I look forward to the opportunity to continue fighting for these principles and all residents of Somerville and Medford."
"We are excited to endorse Rep. Carl Sciortino for re-election," said Angus McQuilken, vice president for Public Affairs at the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund. "Carl is a champion for reproductive freedom, family planning, and real health education for our youth."
"Since his first day in the Legislature, Carl Sciortino is someone who has never been afraid to stand up for himself, and for the rest of us in the GLBT community," said Marc Solomon, executive director of MassEquality. "Carl is an outspoken champion of equality and progressive causes inside the State House, and MassEquality is proud to support such a tremendous leader in the fight for equal rights."
Sciortino is a two-term Democratic state representative in the 34th Middlesex District, serving parts of Somerville and Medford. A strong advocate for issues such as education, economic development and public transportation, he is running a sticker campaign for re-election on Sept. 16.
